    Jane Goodall was born in London. When she was on years old, her father gave her a toy chimpanzee, Jane loves it and named I Jubilee, carring it everywhere.
  • Discovers that himpanzees eat meat

    Dr. Jane Goodall made the observation of a group of chimps eating a bushpig. Chimpanzees had been assumed to be vegetarian. A group of chimpanzees attacked, killed, and ate a red colobus monkey that had climbed high into a tree.
  • Discovers that chimpanzees make and use tools

    Jane observes David Greybeard and Goliath making tools to extract termites from their mounds, a discovery that would force science to reconsider its definition of homo sapiens: “Man the Toolmaker.”
  • Jane Goodall Institute

    With 31 offices around the world, Dr. Jane and the Institute are widely recognized for effective community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa and the protection of wild chimpanzees in Africa’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary.
  • Jane becomes an activist

    Jane Goodall attends the first ‘Understanding Chimpanzees’ conference in Chicago. This change her focus from observation and research to a broader holistic animal-human conservation approach.
  • Roots & Shoots

    This program is dedicated to inspiring young people to take action in their communities and it has since grown to include approximately 150,000 individuals in nearly 100 countries.
