Jackson and The 2nd National Bank

  • Creation of the Second National Bank

    The Second National Bank was chartered by President James Madison and was created in 1816, and Andrew Jackson did not like it. The bank was chartered for many reasons of the past one. The bank was mostly biased towards urban and industrial northern states.
  • Jackson’s First Term Begins

    Andrew Jackson begins his first term as the President of the United States, and decides to fight the bank. Jackson investigates the bank’s policies and political agenda. The director of the bank, and Congress would fight back against Jackson.
  • Jackson’s Message to Congress

    In Andrew Jackson’s first message to congress, he questioned the constitutionality of the bank, and said that it did not establish a sound and uniform currency. Congress decided that the bank was indeed constitutional.
  • Jackson Vetoes a Re-Charter

    A petition to re-charter the second national bank, to resolve conflicts, was vetoed by president Andrew Jackson after it had passed both of the Houses. The veto from Jackson could not be overruled.
  • Jackson’s Re-Election

    Andrew Jackson was against Henry Clay in the presidential election. Andrew Jackson won the election, by “fighting for the common man”, which gained the votes, and encouraged Jackson to keep fighting the bank.
  • Jackson Destroys the Bank

    Andrew Jackson removes the federal funds from the Second National Bank and redistributes them to many state banks, and decided that the bank could not be deposited into after October.
