Bismarck instigated Austria, causing them to declare war against Prussia. Austria suffered a humliating defeat. Austria lost the region of Venetia, which was given to Italy because they had accepted Prussians annexation of more German territory.

Bismarck called up the French ambassador, and made up a story about him. The French reacted to Bismarck's deception by declaring war. Prussian's captured 83,000 French including Napoleon III. Parisians were forced to surrender due to starvation and hunger.
