in the carpet factory, above where Fatima sleeps there is a slate covered in tallys. after every day Mr.Khan, the slaver, takes off one of the lines and gives Fatima one rupee. when all of the tallys are gone Fatima gets to go home.

After finishing a blue, handmade carpet, Iqbal takes a knife and cuts it up into shredds.

After that event, Iqbal gets thrown into the "tomb."
