    Inter-War Period

    The Inter-War Period was the between the years 1919 and 1939 when the most of the world was at peace between the World Wars, but there many big events between the two decades.
  • The Treaty of Versailles is Signed

    World War 1 was ended by the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on the 28th of June, 1919. The treaty which was negotiated between January and June 1919 in Paris, was written by the Allies with basically no participation by the Germans. The Treaty included 15 parts and 440 articles. Part 1 created the Covenant of the New League Of Nations which Germany wasn’t allowed to join until 1926.

    The League Of Nations was an international group formed after World War 1 (as a way to solve arguments before turning into warfare) on the and the first meeting was held on the 15th Of November 1920.

    Corfu Incident

    The Corfu Incident was a crisis between Italy and Greece in 1923. This event was caused by an Italian General heading a commision to resolve a border issue between Albania and Greece was murdered on Greek soil. Benito Mussolini issued a severe warning to Greece and when it was not accepted, dispatched forces to bombard Corfu. Mussolini challenged the League of Nations and said Italy would leave if it arbitrated in the crisis, and the Conference of Ambassadors made an agreement favoring Italy.
  • The Locarno Pact Is Signed

    The Locarno Pact of 1925 was signed on the 1st of December between Germany, France, Britain and Italy. The Locarno Pact has three aims, to secure Europe after the First World War, to insure demilitarisation of Rhineland, which was key for France and to allow negotiations to let Germany into the League of Nations.
  • Wall Street Crash

    ‘The Roaring 20s’ would end in a bad way, with the October 29th (Black Tuesday) 1929 Wall Street Crash causing The Great Depression which lasted more than a decade in the United States and is still the biggest crash in U.S history even to this date. By 1932 most stocks were worth 20% of what the were in the summer of 1929.
  • Adolf Hitler Becomes Chancellor Of Germany

    On the 30th of January, 1933, president Paul Von Hindenburg named Adolf Hitler leader of the Nazi Party, Chancellor of Germany which would soon lead to the Second World War. In 1932 Hitler tested his growing popularity by running against Hindenburg in the presidential election winning 30% of the vote.
  • Elvis Presley Was Born

    Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on the 8th of January, 1935. His twin brother, Jesse Garon was stillborn leaving Elvis to be an only child. Elvis moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he graduated high school. In 1954 Elvis began his singing career with Sun Records Label and in 1956 was an international superstar after his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor in 1955.

    Spanish Civil War

    The Spanish Civil War between the years of 1936 and 1939 was caused by a military revolt against the Spanish Republican Government. The Nationalists (Rebels) were helped by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. The Republicans received aid from the Soviet Union and Volunteers from Europe and the United States. The war was ended by 250,000 republicans fleeing to France and on the 5 March 1939 the Republican Government also went to France allowing the Nationalists to invade Madrid, ending the war.
  • Samsung Was Founded

    South Korea’s company Samsung was founded as a trading company in Su-dong by Lee Byung-chul on the 1st of March 1938. In 1947 the company really begin to grow so the moved to Seoul, South Korea. Soon the company moved into insurance, retail and security and in the 1960’s into electronics which to this day is the biggest section of the company.
  • WWII Begins

    The World's Second World War started on September 1st of 1939 only months after the end of the Spanish Civil War. The war started when Germany started to invade Poland, which made Britain and France declare war on Germany.
