    European explorers bring slaves to the Americas

    The African slaves were brought into the Americas. European explorers forced to work on their plantations.
  • Cotton gin invented in the U.S.

    The cotton gin is a divice made for comfortably separating coton form its flower. The Coton industry grew and more slaves were needed to work on the feilds, this caused the growth of slavery. It was invented by Eli Witney.
  • Slavery end in great Britain

    Slavery In Great Britain ends when the act of abolishion was made by the parliament of the United Kingdom. At first all slaves under the age of 6 were freed, every one older became apprentices that was abolished in 1840.
  • Slavery ends in Sweden

    Slavery became illegal in 1813, but was not abolished till 1847. In 1788 the commitie abolishing alvery sent Anders Sparrmen to talk to Gustav 3,the king himself was against slavery. He said he would do all he could to abolish it in his country.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Was a serious of bills that were meant to resolve the problems between the slave free states and the southern states. They arose form the Mexican- American war Mexican(1846-1848).
  • Fugative slave act.

    Compromise made by the Southern slave holding states and the the Northern slave free states. It declared that runaway slaves were to be returned to their master. Slaves had no right in court if they were arrested in an other state.

    Civil war in the United states of America

    War between states to fight against slavery. Resulted in about 750, 000 deaths of soldiers. the confederacy of the southern states surrenders and slavery is abolished!
  • Emancipation proclamation in the U.S.

    Signing of the emancipation proclamation was issued to all the executive branches in the U.S by president Lincoln. Saying that all slaves must be freed.
  • Slavery ends in the United States

    In 1804 all states above the Mason and Dixon line passed laws for the gradual abbolition of slavery.In 1863 President Lincoln freed the slaves in the Southern states. In 1865 after the thirteenth amendment slavery was perminantly abolished.

    Jim Crow Laws

    Many states inforced Jim Crow Laws. This allowed to legally punish people consorting with another race. the most common were the laws not allowing intermarrage and the law that buisnesses had to keep their white and black clients separate.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education Proclamation in the U.S.

    Court was deciding wether or not separating Black and white children into separate schools was illegal. It was decided that children should get the same education and be allowed in one school. This was a major victory for the civil rights movement.

    Freedom Riders movement

    Civil rights activists rode buses into the Souuthern states. They were often met with hatred and disgust. They traveled to Missisipi and to Alabama to fight segregation there. Their effort helped transform the civil rights movement.
  • Martin Luther King Assasinated.

    The civil rights leader was assinated in Tennesse. He was shot on the balcony of his hotel room. This caused outrage and riots.
  • Mauritania becomes last to abolish slavery.

    Mauritania, a meduim sized country became last to abolish slavery. CNN revealed that their goverment denies that slavery exists to this day, but even though it is illegal deep in the Sahara dessert people still own others and people are forced to work for others with no pay. Families are torn appart.
