The northern states won the war and slavery was therefore abolished.

    A 14 year-old African American boy was said to have whistled at a married white woman. He was later kidnapped, beaten, shot and dumped in a river. No charges were pressed from the all-white jury.

    The freedom riders were protesters who broke the law of "seperate but equal" by standing in "whites only" lines and sitting in the front of the bus. However many freedom riders were hurt suring the process, so they eventually stopped.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated in Tenesesse. After one of his speeches, he was returning to his motel room, there he was shot in the head by James Earl Ray. Many people mourned that day. James Earl Ray was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
