Unit 4: Industrialization Assessment

  • Samuel Slater

Samuel Slater was an immigrant who brought the design for the first American factory to the U.S.
  • Transportation

Transportation, such as the railroad systems, allowed for industrial expansion. These systems were built primarily by immigrants.
  • Less-Skilled Positions

Immigrant workers were willing to work in less-skilled positions, so they would do whatever work was required, even if it was menial, difficult, and dangerous.
  • American Jobs

It was harder for Americans to get jobs because they wanted to be paid more than immigrants.
  • Women

Factories were willing to hire Immigrant women as well, which allowed them to have even more workers to build their products.
  • Demand

The population grew significantly with all the new immigrants coming to the country. That meant there were more people in need of products, and more people to build them. The more people that came to the country, the greater the demand for products.
  • Mass Production

Mass production allowed for things to be produced for much less than before, and goods could be sold for less.
  • Cheap Labor

Immigrants were willing to work for less than American workers, so it was easy for factories to get a lot of cheap labor.
