    In 1901 when federation began it excluded indigenous and Torres strait islanders as they didn't get the same rights and the British people

    In 1962 Indigenous and Torres strait islander people were given the right to vote in federal elections but voting was compulsory
  • The referundum

    In 1967 Australians voted to change the Constitution so Indigenous and Torres strait islanders could be counted as the population.
  • Sorry Day

    On February 13 prime minister ( at the time) Kevin Rudd made an apology for all the laws, rules and grief that government have caused over so many years. That affected Indigenous and Torres strait islanders.
