  • The troops.

    It's after WW11 and the troops have separated. US troops going to the South, Sovient troops going to occupy the North.
  • South delares Independence.

    In 1950, South Korea decided that they were an independent nation, and henceforth were no longer a part of North Korea. This started the invasion by North Korea.
  • Korean War ends.

    A truce ran through both South Korea and Noth Korea, stopping the Korean war. That is, after two million people were killed though the fighting.
  • Heavy industrial growth.

    North Korea's industries grow heavily.
  • 1969 - US reconnaissance plane shot down.

    In 1969 a plane belonging to the US reconnaissance was shot down by the North, infuriating the South.
  • 1980 - Kim Il-Sung's son, Kim Jong-Il follows in his fathers footsteps

    Kim ll-Sung's son, Kim Jong-ll also became a politician, much like his father, and moved up the political ladder.
  • North and South Korea join United Nations

    In 1991, North Korea and South Korea finally join United Nations. That same year Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Marshall Islands and Federated States of Micronesia also joined the United Nations.
  • 1994 - Death of Kim Il-sung.

    In 1994 Kim ll-sung died of heart failure. This changed North Korea immensly.
  • Flood and Famine.

    In 1996 North Korea faced severe flooding and famine. There is said to be between 0.24- 3.5 million deaths because of it.
  • Fighing starts again.

    North Korea states that they will no longer abide by the truce that ended the Korean war, and so, the fighting starts again. They send troops, and the North submarines run aground in the South.
  • 'Eternal President'

    The late Kim Il-song is declared the 'eternal president'. Kim Jong-Il's powers of the country widen and he;'s becomes the head of the state.
