    The compromise of 1850 was a series of 5 bills that ended a 4 year argument between the slave states of the south and the free states over the north, over the status of territories gained in the mexican american war. The significance of the compromise of 1850 was that it really divided the north and the south, and also set the lines for the border states too. The creation of these territories led to what we know as the United States of America today.

    The Kansas Nebraska act was an act that created the states of Kansas and Nebraska, which majorly opened up more land for settlement. This act also allowed settlers to decide whether or not they wanted to allow slavery in those states through popular sovereignty.

    Bleeding Kansas was a multitude of violent political acts That took place in modern day Kansas. Anti salvery Free state citizens were involved with their strong and violent views. The main question that was being discussed was whether Kansas would enter the union as a free state or a slave state. These events were very important because it helped Kansas enter the union as a free state.

    The Dred Scott Decision
    The Dred Scott Decision was a battle between Dred Scott and Sandford, in which the rights of African Americans were being discussed. At the time, Dred was battling for African Americans, whether slaves or not, could be U.S. citizens. This case was a landmark because they denied Dred's argument, keeping firm that under no case were African Americans allowed to be citizens of the United States. This was one of the most unconstitutional decisions that the U.S. Supreme court has ever made.

    The Lincoln Douglas debates was a series of 7 debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, mainly all the debates were on slavery. The debates were held in seven different town in Illinois. These debates were huge, seeing that tons of people showed up, and that they were battling for the overall presidency campaign, in which the exact same issues would be faced. Although Lincoln lost to Douglas, he made a comeback the next year and was elected president of the United States of America.

    Harper's Ferry
    Harpers ferry is located in Jefferson County, West Virginia. It is best known for John Browns Raid on the armory in 1859. The historic Battle of Harpers Ferry also took place here. In the baattle of harpers ferry, a confederate army commanded by general Robert E. Lee surrounded, bombed, and captured Harpers Ferry, taking over 12,000 american soldiers prisoner. Harpers ferry is located inside the Shenandoah rivers, where Maryland, Virginiaan West Virginia meet.

    Lincoln was elected in 1860. In the time that he was elected to the time he held the inaguration, seven southern states had seceded from the union, eaving almost no southern support. With that being done Lincolns goal was to abolish slavery, which eventually lead to one of the greatest accomplishments in U.S. history, which was the abolishment of slavery. Lincoln had recovered from earlier losses in debates to Stpehen Douglas, over the same topic of slavery.

    Fort sumter is a sea fort, located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. This is a very historic place because the shots that started the civil war were fired here, in the battle of Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was incredibly sturdy, with walls that were made out of brick and were five feet thick. When Fort Sumter was under attack, it became a prison, when the soldiers were trapped after the battle of Fort Sumter, in which they ran out of food and were starving.

    Bull Run consisted of 2 battles. The first battle took place on July 21st, 1861. The first battle of Bull Run was the first major land battle of the American Civil war, making it a historic battle. Both sides were highly inexperienced and not very well equipped. The second battle of bull run was much different. The battle was on a much larger scale, the soldiers were well equipped and experienced and knew what they were doing. The union army suffered more casualties in both battles, thus losers.

    Antietam is located in Maryland, and was the site for a major battle. The battle was the Battle of Antietam, it was the first major battle in the civil war to take place on Union grounds. The Battle of Antietam is the bloodiest single day battle in american history, with more than 22,000 dead, wounded and missing on both sides combined.

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation was an order sent by Abraham Lincoln. It proclaimed that all slaves in rebel states were to be free.The Emancipation Proclamation applied to 3.1 million of the 4 million slaves in the United States. The emancipation also stated that if suitable, those freed slaves could be admitted into paid work. This was a revolutionary statement because it gave freed slaves citizenship without actually giving them citizenship.

    Gettysburg and Gettysburg Address
    Gettysburg is located in Adams County, Pennsylvania. Gettysburg witnessed multiple historic events, including the battle of gettysburg, and the gettysburg address. The most famous of the two is the Gettysburg address. This address was given by Abraham Lincoln, this speech is one of the best known speeches in American History. Although the speech was only 2 minutes long, it went over all topics, including the war, he memorialized those soldiers who had died, and restated that everyone is equal.

    The Andersonville Prison was a prisoner camp that held more prisoners at any time than any other confederate military prisons. The aspects of living in this prison was brutal, there was a fence line, and if you crossed that fence line, you would be shot. The living conditions were terrible, of the nearly 45,000 Union prisoners that were held there, more than 13,000 of them died from disease, malnutrition, and overcrowding. The first prisoners were brought in February of 1864, and 400more eachday

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln occured as the Civil War was coming to an end. As Lincoln was sitting watching a play, The assassinator, John Wilkes Booth snuck up behind Lincoln, and shot him in the back of the head. As Booth tried to escape,he ended up breaking his leg, and later admitting to shooting Lincoln. This was really the first major assassination of a major public figure in U.S. history.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Court House

    Surrender at Appomattox Court House
    The Surrender at Appomattox Court House was the event that followed the Battle of appomattox Court House, in which Robert E Lee's Confederate arm, which way underestimated the power of the union forces that were staged there, launched an attack in which he hoped to brak through the Unions defenses. What he didn't realize was that the Unions had 3 lines of cavalry, instead of just one. After they surrounded Robert's army, Robert was forced to surrende, leading to the end of the civil war.

    Reconstruction was the era of rebiulding. Both the North and the south had been devastated by the Civil War, andwr in desperate need of a new economy, new government, and pretty much a new everything. The views of Lincoln stood for a while until the radical republicans took over. Then a new war wa started, a political war.
