  • Theodore Roosevelt becomes President U.S.

  • Hepburn Act

    Congress passed the Hepburn Act to clarify and increase the authority of the Interstate Commerce Commission over railroads and certain other types of carriers. It was enacted by the 59th United States Congress.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906

    The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was the first significant consumer protection laws which was enacted by Congress and led to the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. It became effective on January 1, 1907.
  • William Howard Taft becomes 27th U.S. President

  • U.S. troops sent to Haiti in 1915

    Following the assassination of the Haitian President in July of 1915, President Woodrow Wilson sent the United States Marines into Haiti to restore order and maintain political and economic stability in the Caribbean.
  • In 1917, U.S. enters World War 1
