    Reasons for Imperialism
    Like the rest of Europe, the Dutch desired these lands of Southeast Asia, Indonesia, mainly for agricultural reasons. The land in Southeast Asia was perfect for plantation agriculture. Some of the major goods produced in this area include sugar cane, coffee, cocoa, pineapple, bananas, rubber, and coconuts. Indonesia also produced nutmeg, cloves, and cubeb pepper as well in Maluka. As these products became more popular and desired, European powers raced to take control of these lands.
