  • The Dead Rabbits Riot

    This event took place over two days and it was when two gangs started fighting. At first it started out as a small street fight but ended up turning into the citywide gang war.
  • The Ku Klux Klan is Established

    The KKK was a group that didn't like the African American community. So they would commit terrorist acts against them until congress finally got involved and shut them down.
  • John D. Rockefeller Creates Standard Oil

    He started a business with some partners because during this time the oil business could bring in a big sum of cash. Rockefeller just wanted to control the market by himself though and make his profits dependable.
  • Alexander Graham Bell Patents the Telephone

    He patents the telephone after he had fully finished working on it. He also wasn't the only one that was working on the telephone but he was the first to put a patent on it.
  • The Great Oklahoma Land Race

    It was the day where men and women would go and buy the houses that were in new towns that popped up overnight.
  • Ellis Island Opens to Process Immigrants

    On January 1st Ellis Island becomes the place where immigrants have to go if they want to enter the United States. The first person to go through it was Annie Moore accompanied by her brother from Ireland.
  • The Wizard of Oz (Book) is Published

    The Wizard of Oz (Book) was written by L. Frank Baum and it is about a Farm girl who gets sent to a magical world after being swept up by a tornado.
  • Teddy Roosevelt Becomes President of the United States

    Roosevelt was the youngest president and during his time he did a lot of things to try and help America. He became president after William McKinley was assassinated.
  • J.P. Morgan Founds U.S. Steel

    He helped several large steel companies combine into one and that is how U.S Steels were created.
  • Ford Motor Company is Founded

    Henry Ford creates the Ford Motor car and starts a factory to produce and sell the car. The company started out by only the rich being able to buy the car but he eventually made a car that everybody could afford. As well as making an assembly line that helped make all the cars.
  • Ida Tarbell Publishes Her Article About Standard Oil

    She published this article to expose all of the standard oil companies.
  • The 16th Amendment is Passed

    It was passed by congress on this day but was ratified in February 1913. Basically it is saying that the government can legally put up an income tax on things.
  • Angel Island Opens to Process Immigrants

    Angel Island opens up on the west coast in California to process the immigrants that are coming in from Asia.
  • The 17th Amendment is Passed

    It was passed by congress on May 13, 1912 but it was finally ratified on April 8, 1913. The 17th Amendment is basically where the people are now able to vote on who they want the senators to be.
  • The Empire State Building Opens

    On the day that it opened it was officially the tallest skyscraper in the world. The reason it was built was to host corporate business offices.
