The Dead Rabbit riot was a major gang battle in New York City on July 4, 1857 between the Irish and American Dead Rabbits Gang and the nativist Bowery boys. This riot began as a small street fight but quickly escalated and enlarged into a gang war when Dead Rabbits attacked the Bowery boys Clubhouse. It lead to many and deaths property destruction people estimate and number of gang members between 800 - 1000 involved. The New York State restored order the 5th of July. -
