This is a list of strategies to have in place to deal with inappropriate
behavior in the Fine Arts/Sculpture classroom at the High School level. -
Beginning with transparency: my expectations, which include a thorough discussion on: respect for others, respect for our space, and respect for safety, is taught the first day to each class and a list goes to parents so they are aware of consequences.
A "token economy" will be in so students who clean up more than just their area, are always on time, display outstanding behavior earn tokens for extras like food, snacks, and extra items during field trips. -
Any student who breaks the school's student code of conduct, or places another student in danger will immediately be sent to their AP. An email will be sent to the AP, and to the parents, and a note will be sent home with the student for an honesty check: the note should match the email the parents receive.
-
A minor offense will be dealt with using Specific & Contingent Error Correction. The student will be offered feedback, support, and will get a "do-over".
-
First offenders will be reminded of the classroom rules, offered feedback and get a chance to correct their mistake.
-
A token economy will be in place.
Rewards include: food during lecture one day, in-class movie, field trips, etc. -
Student is reminded to clean up and must do so immediately.
-
Student is reminded of rules/expectations, must clean AND depending on the situation: either overcorrection (cleaning the entire sink area plus their area), or removal of token is the consequence.
-
reminded of where the tool goes, must put it back immediately and make sure it's clean.
-
Reminded of appropriate behavior,Student is reminded of rules/expectations, must replace AND depending on the situation: either overcorrection (picking up other student's items, plus their area), or removal of token is the consequence.
-
reminded of the respectful environment and expected to stay quiet during instruction if not asking pertinent questions.
-
Student is asked to wait in hallway, discussion over respect, and then ask student what they think the consequence should be, from a list such as: giving back a token, cleaning, staying quiet the rest of the period, etc...
