  • Yalta Conferences

    The big three nations at the conference were America, Britian and Russia. They agreed on several different things. The soviet union would enter the war against japan once Germany was defeated, They would all participate fully in the united nations, Nazi war criminals would be hunted down and put to trial, Eastern europue would become a soviet sphere of influence, Germany and Berlin would be split into four parts Britian, France, America and the soviet union.
  • Potsdam Conference

    Things agreed upon at the Potsdam conference. Polands boarder would be westwards to the rivers oder and neisse. That the german army would be reducedand the country demilitarized. Free elections in Germany as well as a return to democracy including free press and speech. Germany would have to pay reperations.
  • Hiroshima and Nagisaki Bombing

    America bombed the cities of hiroshima and nagasaki with atomic bombs. Within the first two to four months of the bombings around 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki were killed, roughly half of the deaths in each city occurred on the first day and the rest later from either burns of radiation.
  • Japanese surrender

    Japan surrendered just days after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as they knew that defeat was inevitible.
  • Iron Curtain speech

    Wiston Churchill made a speech detailing a "Iron Curtain" that would block of the USSR from the rest of europue. The speech was at Westminster College.
  • Cominform

    Cominform was the common name for what was officially referred to as the Information Bureau of the Communist and Workers' Parties. It was the first official propaganda forum of the international communist movement.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The doctrine stated that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from falling into the Soviet sphere of influence.
  • The Marshall Plan

    the marshall plan was the American initiative to aid Europe, in which the United States gave economic support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism.
  • Soviet Expansion in 1948

    By this time the soviet union had established communist goverments in Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania.

    Berlin Blockade

    the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under allied control. Their aim was to force the western powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food, fuel, and aid, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city
  • Comecon

    The Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. Setup for communist countries is response to the marshall plan.
  • Nato treaty signed

    NATO (North Atlantic treaty organisation) was setup
  • The USSR gets Atomic weapons

    The Soviet union became the second nation to detonate an atomic bomb which was codenamed "First Lightning".
  • Cuban Missile crisis

    The USSR moved missiles into Cuba. This was a direct threat to the USA and so the US told them to dismantle the missiles bases and return them to the USSR.
