  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Cause: the British needed money from the colonists from winning them the French and Indian war and felt the colonists should pay them back. Effect: the colonists boycotted the goods that came from England.
  • French and Indian war ends

    French and Indian war ends
    Cause: the English troops defeated the French and their native allies. Effect: the English treasury was depleted and the kind felt that the colonists needed to give back to the English.
  • Stamp act

    Stamp act
    Cause: The British needed funds from the recent French and Indian war and taxes the colonists for money. Effect: this tax caused the colonists to revolt and boycott British goods
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Cause: the colonists were tired of the British being stationed in their colonies and started to heckle a patrol guard. Effect: 5 colonists were killed in this event.
  • Tea act

    Tea act
    Cause: like all the other taxes the British needed the funds that they lost from the French and Indian war and felt the colonists needed to pay them back for it. Effect: the colonists boycotted all British tea products.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Cause: the British taxed the colonists on their tea imports. Effect: the colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians and threw the tea in the harbor.
  • Intolerable/ Coercive Acts

    Intolerable/ Coercive Acts
    Cause: like all other acts passed by the British it was meant to give them the money from the colonists. Effect: the Boston harbor was closed down and the tension grew between the colonists and the British.
  • First continental congress

    First continental congress
    Cause: England sent out the intolerable acts for the colonists involvement in the Boston tea party. Effect: the colonists decided to boycott British goods.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Cause:Tensions have been building over the time since the Boston tea party. Effect: the colonists outnumbered the British and made them retreated back to the ships.
  • Second continental congress

    Second continental congress
    Cause: the battles of Lexington and Concord occurred and the colonists met. Effect: general Washington suggested that they form an army instead of just a collection of untrained colonists.
  • Declaration of Independence was adopted

    Declaration of Independence was adopted
    Cause: the colonists were tired of the British lording over them and the colonists wanted there independence. Effect: this document caused the Americans to declare their independence from Great Britain.

    The British moved their troops to attack the American troops. Effect: by winning the battle the American troops got a huge moral boost by winning this battle

    Winter at valley forge

    Cause: tough winter forced the American troops to bunker down at valley forge in the winter of 1777. Effect: the American troops came out of the winter stronger and better trained.

    Battle of Yorktown

    Cause: the British made one last stand against the surrounding Americans. Effect: the revolutionary war was ended when the British surrendered.

    U.S. constitution is written
    Cause: all forms of government before failed and the colonists wanted to create their own government. Effect: this document created the government we have today including the three branches legislative, judicial, and executive.
  • U.S. constitution is adopted

    U.S. constitution is adopted
    Cause: the colonists did it like the current government being imposed by the British. Effect: this created our current day government.
