The 13 colonies of America revolted against the British rule and decided that they were better off independent. The revolution took many years to come to an end because the British were the strongest nation at the time. The American revolution is believed to have sparked many other revolutions such as the French Revolution.

It is considered one of the most important achievements of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency. 15 states were created with this purchase.     Also known as Operation Overlord, D-Day was one of the largest military assaults in history. With 156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops landed on five heavily fortified beaches occupied by the Axis troops. Although the invasion was a success, there were many casualties. This day is significant to US history because it was one of the first times the Allies were on the offensive and with the invasion being a success they were able to drive through German forces ending Hitler's rule.

The struggle for equality left the country divided and caused many social issues within. This was an important event in US history because it has affected the way we all live today.

This led to increased tension between the two countries with both ready to fire their bombs at any given moment. We still feel the rivalry between Russia because of events such as the this and others(space race)

    Martin Luther King died in St. Josephs Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He was shot by James Earl Ray who was captured in England. This is an important event for the U.S. history because he was one of the few persons who tried to make equal rights in the U.S.

    Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the austronauts who landed. The U.S. won the Space Race because they were the first country to land on the moon. This occured 8 years after John F. Kennedy announced the goal of landing a man to the moon. This was an important event because it showed that the U.S. could have done something that other countries couldn’t.

    The September 11 attacks in 2001 were 4 organized attacks on the United States by the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Commercial airliners were hijacked by members from the terrorist group and used to deliberately crash into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon. These attacks changed the way the United States viewed national security. New laws were made, borders were reinforced, and surveillance increased significantly.
