    The 747 was the first plane called a "jumbo jet" because of its wide body. The idea for creating the giant 747 came from reductions in airfares, a surge in air passenger traffic and increasingly crowded skies.The design behind the 747 was to develop a completely new plane, and the designers purposefully avoided using some hardware. The maximum capacity was 605 meaning a of of people could travel at once increasing levels of tourism by vast amounts.

Package holidays are now provided by most tour operators at a affordable price improving the number of customers flying to different countries and seeing different attractions.

Tickets for this flight was so expensive that the capacity of passengers expected would be half as people could not afford to fly. This decreased the chances of some destinations earning money from tourists however tourists and business people still flew out if they could afford it.

When they launched they had 25 staff members with daily flights on the Bandeirante aircraft which had 15 seats. Crew members had to be under 5ft tall to operate in the cabin as it was so small.

    They were a well known travel company that faced financial difficulties and had to stop trading meaning they could not help their customers no more with holiday packages. This had an impact on the industry as it meant it no longer existed.

    The Channel Tunnel is one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken in the UK. Taking more than five years to finish. 4.5 million UK tourists use the Channel Tunnel every year. Its the longest undersea tunnel in the world. It allows passengers to travel to destinations such as Paris and Amtserdam.

    EasyJet founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou to offer low fares flights in Europe. EasyJet launched its first two flights across the UK. The route of Luton to Glasgow began on November 10th. The flight cost £29 making more tourists and travellers want to purchase for such a cheap price.

    The twin towers known as the World Trade Centre in New York was a popular tourist spot for everyone around the world. An attack on the 11th of September 2001 caused the towers to collapse resulting in Tragedy across America. Once the memorial was built travellers and locals go and pay respects. many people travel there to see the memorials and mourn.

    Social media plays a big part in the growth of travel and tourism. Here are some examples: In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg introduced the Facebook social network. This allowed people to share photos, travel tips and stories. By the end of 2019, there were nearly 2.5 billion active users on the site. A 2015 survey found that 48% of users were using Instagram to help pick their next holiday destination and 35% were using it to discover new places.

    Brexit caused changes in the travel regulations such as passport requirements and border controls. This has led to disruption for travellers. Also currency rates have changed effecting travel cost for the UK travellers and residents. Visitors to the UK dropped by 5.3%.

    In 2019, almost 20 years after its inception, TripAdvisor had 460 million average monthly unique visitors to the site and over 830 million reviews covering 9.1 million hotels, restaurants, airlines attractions and more. This just shows how much travel and tourism has grown over the years especially with the help of apps.

    Corona virus created a massive downfall in the travel and tourism industries. People were not allowed to leave the house never mind the country to travel to a different one. Here are some examples. In April 2020, only 19,862 passenger vehicles travelled, compared with 227,393 in the same month in 2019, a decrease of 91.3%. This includes cars, motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, caravans, camper vans and coaches.
