  • Marbury vs Madison

    Marbury vs Madison
    This court case was a result of President John Adams appointing many new Justices of Peace for the District of Columbia during the final days of his presidency. When Thomas Jefferson became president, he ordered the notifications not be sent to those who had been appointed to the position by former President Adams. The court ruled that the letters would have to be sent out, ruled that the Judiciary Act of 1789 was unconsitiutional, and started the idea of Judicial Review.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    During Thomas Jeffersons Presidency he purchased the Louisiana Territory from the French Emperor Nepoleon. The acquiring of this territory doubled the size of the USA and allowed for expansion within the borders of the United States. The act of Thomas Jefferson purchasing this land went against his strict interpretation of the consitution because the constitution does not say the President can purchas land.
  • Reconstruction Amendments

    Reconstruction Amendments
    The 13th ammendment states that all slaves in the union would be considered free citizens of the USA. The 14th ammendment states that anoyone born within the territory of the USA is considered a citizen of the country. The 15th ammendment states that voting can not be denied based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

    The first telephon was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. This invention was the first time two individuals could communicate, verbally, when they were not standing with eachother. Since the invention, the telephone has become much more advanced and is now almost seen as a necessity in our every-day lives.
  • Social Gains Amendments

    Social Gains Amendments
    16th Amendment: States that the more money you make, the more money the government will take.
    17th Amendment: The citizens of the United States will vote for their Senators
    18th Amendment: Prohibited the buying, selling, and making of spirits, otherwise known as alcohol, in the United States
    19th Amendment: This amendment gave women the right to vote and is also refered to as the "Women's Sufferage Amendment"
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    Transcontinental Railroad
    This railroad that stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean was built with lots of help from both Chinese and Irish immigrants. The railroad was completed at Promontory Point, Utah in 1869. The construction of such size allowed quicker and easier travel from the East USA to the West USA.
  • Presidential Diplomacies

    Presidential Diplomacies
    President Roosevelt's diplomacy was known as the "Big Stick Diplomacy" because he believed that using the USA's large military as leverage was the way to go. President Taft's diplomacy was known as the "Dollar Diplomacy" because he believed that the way to success was to use the USA's money as leverage. President Wilson's diplomacy was known as the "Missionary Diplomacy" because he believed that to win, the USA would need to use democratic ideas as leverage.

    The First World War had many causes including, Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism, and the Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and Sofia. Although the war had started in 1914, the USA didnt officially enter the war until April 6, 1917. the Treaty of Versailles helped bring the war to and end and allowed the nations to write up a peace treaty.

    President Roosevelt launced the program known as "The New Deal" in effort to get the US back on its feet. The New Deal had three phases...
    Relief: instant help to the hungry and homeless.
    Recovery: creation of new jobs and Stabalize industry.
    Reform: creat/change laws that will prevent another economic depression.

  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    As President Roosevelt put it, December 7th, 1941 is a date that will "live in infamy." The deliberate attack on Hawaii is what caused the USA to enter World War II and the reason behind the dropping of the Atomic Bombs on the Jabanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Still to this day, the attack on Pearl Harber is a vivid memory as to how the unexpected can happen during the course of a World War.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    Under the Presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson, congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Civil Rights Act made discrimination in public places illigal as well as in employment, social programs, and even educational programs. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 played a very large role in the Civil Rights Movement.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    On September 11, 2001, members of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization overthrew four USA bound planes. One of the planes crashed into the Pentagon, another plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, PA, and the last two planes crashed into both of the Twin Towers. This terrorist attack caused the US Government to create the Department of Homeland Security, and to heighten security across the country.
