The Centrepin reel has a pin in the center of the reel which allows for the spooled line to cast farther and get more line in the water from the momentum. The Centrepin reel is the original design for deep sea fishing reels and coastal fishing reels.

The newest models of baitcasting reels are made from stainless steel or other composite materials to make a lighter reel. They are also fitted with centrifugal brakes that can be adjusted. When you adjust the brake you get fewer backlashes but you also lose distance on your casts
