    During the civil rights movement many of the American public schools were separated based on the principle of race. In many cases this led to poor educational funding for schools that were designated towards minority students because of this many Americans protested these conditions as it was not fair for students. Eventually this case would reach the supreme court, during this trial the court deemed that segregation in school was unconstitutional.

    The National Defense Education Act of 1958 was enacted by president Eisenhower in order to improve the education system in our country president Eisenhower work to fund the education system. Through this act there was an emphasis on post secondary schooling to encourage students to go college and to also learn trades. In addition to this programs to support gifted and talented students, overall through this act funding was given to schools in order to fund the education of Americans.

    In the year 1963 a landmark case known as Engel vs. Vitale led to the removal of bibles and prayer in school. Many Americans found prayer in schools to be unconstitutional as it felt that schools were pushing a religious agenda by promoting the beliefs of Christianity. Prior to this case prayer and bible reading was quite a common practice in public school , but because of this activities such as prayer were taken out which helped to promote freedom of religion in schools.

    During the early 1960's an eight week program was constructed to provide young children from low income communities with the chance to be given proper education while also taking care of their other needs. This program not only focused on the academic development of these children, but also focused on the emotional development as well. Through the head start program children from low income communities were properly assisted and provided with an educate at young age.

    The education of the handicapped act of 1970 sought to provide children with disabilities education and proper supplies and funding to accomplish this goal. Through this act many children with disabilities were granted more opportunities because through funding school were able to accommodate for their circumstances. Since the passing of this act schools now have teachers and professionals who specialize in aiding and educating students with disabilities.

    On countless occasions throughout educational history women have often been discriminated against as they did not receive the same opportunities as their male counterparts. In response to this Title IX was enacted which prevented any educational discrimination based on the premises of sex. Through this educational opportunities became available to women as educational opportunities would lead to job opportunities that saw women branching into many different fields.

However thanks to this act worked to get rid of discriminations against those with a disability. Through this act doorways in education for children with disabilities have opened up as they now work in classrooms where their disabilities are accommodated for.

    While in the past many laws have been passed in order to improve the educational system , many schools and parents felt that there was still much more work to be done. In response to this the Standard Movement would begin, though this movement states would set standards for students in which they would have to meet. This move would ignite the creation state mandated exams that would be used to gauge the academic knowledge of a student and set the standard of where a student should be.

    The No Child Left Behind was an act created and implemented by former president George Bush which sought to improve the education of students and create more opportunities. This act required students participate in standardized testing in subject areas such as reading to gauge the scores of these students. While the concept of this act may have sounded good in practice , many schools would soon meet it with retaliation as for educators it created many problems within the school.

    Every Student Succeeds Act

    Due to issues with the No Child Left Behind Act, the Every Student Succeeds act was created to improve upon the previous idea and provide students with an even better educational opportunity. Through this act school are accountable for the success of each other their students which created a sense of accountability for the schools. This act also provided help to those students with a disadvantage or an exceptionality granting them a free and equal education.
