  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Ended "seperate but equal" schools for black and white. Case used as a precendent for children with disabilities cannot be excluded from public education

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): 1975-1997

    Provided educational benefits and other opportunites for children with disabilities.
  • Public Law 94-142 "Bill of Rights"

    "Bill of Rights" which assured all handicapped children have free public education, their rights were protected.
  • Public Law 99-457

    1992-1993 school year all states mandated free and approproate public education for all children with disabilities from the ages of 3-5.
  • Public Law 101-476

    renamed PL 94-142 to IDEA. Within the law children was replaced with individual and handicapped changed to with disabilities.
  • Public Law 101-336 Americans with Disabilities Act

    Forbids discrimination against persons with disabilities in both public and private settings.
  • Public Law 105-17 IDEA Act Amendments of 1997

    restructures IDEA into 4 parts and other changes ranging from how to discipline disability students to how IEP's are developed. Big points are; IEP's are required to stay how the student will be involved in the general ed. curriculum.
  • No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

    Went into effective January 8, 2008. Stating all students, including students in special education, are expected to be proficiency in math, reading, and science.
  • IDEA Improvement Act of 2004

    Reauthorizing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008

    Revised the definition of a disability.
