    Mills Vs. Board of Education of The District of Columbia

    Mills Vs. Board of Education of The District of Columbia was a case one of the fires cases in the US that ensured the right of students with disabilities to a public education regardless of cost to the school system. The case came about from a class-action lawsuit brought to the court on behalf of seven students who were denied public education by the District of Columbia. The school did not want to accept the students because of the additional cost the school would incur due to accommodations.

    Education for All Handicapped Children (EAHCA)

    Education for All Handicapped Children (EAHCA) was passed on November 29, 1975, by President Gerald Ford. This law required public schools to provide appropriate education services for all children with disabilities. This was also known as Public Law 94-142 (PL-94-142) and public schools were required to evaluate children with disabilities to create an educational plan with the participation of the parents.

The law requires the state to provide free appropriate public education to children with disabilities. In addition, it establishes to change language and refer to “people first “ when referring to people with disabilities.
