    This court case ruled that it was unconstitutional for educational institutions to segregate based on race. This would have impacts on special education further down the road.

    Law requiring free education for all students and for federal funding made available to primary and secondary schools for students affected by poverty
  • Diana V. Board of Education California

    Ruled that Spanish speaking children must be evaluated for special education in their native language.
  • Mills Vs Board of Education of District of Columbia

    Mills Vs Board of Education of District of Columbia

    Ruled that students classified as exceptional are not to be denied access to public education.
  • PARC v. Pennsylvania

    PARC v. Pennsylvania

    Ruled that special education is guaranteed for children with intellectual disabilities, regardless of mental age.
  • Larry P v. Riles

    Ruled that testing for special education must be non-discriminatory. Also ruled that IQ tests could not be used as the only indicator for special education.
  • Public Law 94-142

    President Ford signed into law Public Law 94-142. Requires all states that received federal funding are required to provide equal access to education for all students. Also providing them with one free meal per day.
  • Public Law 94-457

    PL 94-457 was signed as an amendment to the All Handicapped Children Act, which mandated states to provide services to families of children with disabilities as soon as they are born.

    President Reagan signed the Handicapped Children Protection Act which gave parents more rights during the development of IEPs for their children.
  • Public Law 101-476
