This has an impact on multicultural education because religion is a huge influence in culture. Removing what most would consider an essential component of religion is also removing an essential part of its culture.

    The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr is in no doubt a huge impact on multicultural education. Advocating for the desegregation within the country including schools, his death shocked many and his work paved the way for desegregation.

    McCarver Elementary becomes first Magnet School
    McCarver elementary school choosing to open its doors to the public pushed for a more integrated educational experience. Increasing the diversity in a setting that offers education gave those attending the experience to understand and observe cultures new to them.

    Indian Education Act
    Acknowledging the educational rights and needs of Native Americans is a monumental step in multicultural education. Increasing educational services to a culture that has specific needs gives it more opportunities to exceed and fulfill educational requirements set by the state.

    Lau v. Nichols
    Lacking english language instruction in the San Fransisco school system was a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Students of Chinese ancestry that spoke little English were given more instruction on the English language resulting in a more culturally integrated group of students.

    Equal Educational Opportunities Act
    This act outlawed the discrimination against educational settings of faculty, staff, and most importantly students. School settings were now becoming more accepting of different cultures. Becoming a less discriminating workplace for faculty also allowed those of different cultural backgrounds to express themselves more and others to observe that more. Giving those sheltered from other cultures a more rich experience to the way of life of others around them.

    This act signed by Barak Obama provided local schools with more funds to increase educational strides. At this point in time schools are very much so multicultural and by providing more funds, schools are able to expand more and provide a better education to those within.

    The closing of 50 schools in Chicago was advertised as a way to cut costs and improve education. Many teachers and other opponents to the closings believed that this move would severely impact those of low income socioeconomic backgrounds.

    In a report put out by UCLA, statistics show how segregation in metropolitan schools among non-hispanic Caucasians and latinos is higher. Having a segregated system in schools based off race and poverty is bound to have negative effects such as prejudicial remarks and beliefs.

    California Passes Prop 58
    California passed prop 58 which entailed for a more diverse classroom in which students may be taught in the language they are fluent in. Having the ability to attend a school in a primarily English speaking country and be taught in your native language is incredibly beneficial. English is very hard to learn for those who do not already speak it. This entailed for a more gentle integration of learning English while learning in general for students of different cultural backgrounds.
