  • Scientific Management

    Frederick Taylor developed the scientific method. This was used at manufacturing companies to improve labor productivity. Over time it helped create competition between employees and was the first time that someone attempted to apply science to management.
  • Audi

    Audi was founded by August Horch in Germany. It is one of the top automobile companies in the wold. The focus is on engineering high performance, long lasting cars. Audi is a member of the German big three car brands. Management has created a highly desired brand by producing some of the highest performing cars every year.
  • The Hawthorne effect

    The Hawthorne effect was the idea of Elton Mayo about behavior assumptions when dealing with scientific management. The study concluded that human factors where the greatest factor in productivity.
  • Titleist

    Titleist is one of the most popular golf brands world-wide and continues to set the mark for quality and performance in the sport of golf. The company also owns Footjoy and Pinnacle. I feel this is important because management has changed the way that golf is played because of the evolution of the golf ball and quality of the clubs. Titleist is the most popular ball used in the sport. They have been able to stay ahead of the competition every year.
  • Surveillance Cameras

    THe use of surveillance cameras became possible. Throughout the years the cameras have become much more clear making it easier to identify what is going on. The cameras can determine what employees are doing while on the clock and can also identify if criminal activity is taking place.
  • Critical Path Method

    This is a set of algorithms designed to help schedule projects. It was developed by Morgan Walker and James Kelley. The idea is that project is broke down and analyzed based on what tasks need to be completed and the amount of time it will take to do each task. This is no longer used today but similar models are.
  • Strategic Management

    This theory was developed in the 1950's-1960's. The theory is based on the procedures to produce the necessary data and then developing policies and plans to achieve these goals. The idea is to make the strategy "fit" the companies policy and goals.
  • Frederick Herzberg

    Herzberg created a list of factors that helped set standards for hygiene and motivation in the workplace. Herzbergs claim was that hygiene must be present before employees will be motivated. This helped shape that standards that are still used in workplaces today.
  • Theory X and Theory Y

    The idea of this is that theory X mangers assume employees are lazy and need to be motivated. The assumption was that theory X disliked their careers. Theory Y managers assume that employees are self motivated and enjoy work.
  • Nike Inc.

    Nike founded as Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964 is the biggest athletic clothing and shoe company. They have used athletes to endorse their products. Management is always looking at the new trends and what is popular with athletes today. Management at Nike has adapted and changed to fit the atletes needs while other companies have failed to do so.
  • Management Model

    A management model was created byRobert BLake and Jane Mouton. The model had one axis that was about concern for task, and the other axis was about concern for people. The model was simple and was designed to see what type of managerial behavior was taking place.
  • Project Management Institute

    PMI is a non profit company thats goal is to advance management. They help set standards, research, education, and with networking. This has helped individuals understand different management strategies.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act

    This act helped improve conditions and the workplace and created a set of standards that employers needed to follow. This is important for managment because it made the workplace safer and helped improve work productivity because their is far less hazards.
  • Apple Inc.

    Apple has created some of the highest quality computers and is constantly staying ahead of the game. Apple continues to be a growing company. This has helped management because they are constantly focused on creating the next new thing and moving forward with projects.
  • Civil Service Reform Act

    This act created the Office of Personnel Mnagement. They are in charge of managing the civil service of the federal government. THe job of the OPM is to strengthen the workplace and also acts in the administrative law system.
  • AACE International

    AACE helped create the concept of cost engeneering. This is also known as total cost management. AACE was founded in the 1950's and is a non profit company.
  • Fire at Malden Hills

    A fire that put 3,000 people out of work brought ethics into management. The CEO payed for all 3,000 employees to stay on the payroll and recieve benifits for three months until they could return back to work at the factory.
  • Google Inc.

    Google has created new ways to market companies and search the web. Google management has created one of the best work environments for employees. The search engine was changed by Google and continues to improve because of managements focus on making it easy and assessable for everyone.
  • Design Management

    Design management focuses on the creativity and production of products. The concept uses a blend of others that have previously been used. The goal is to be efficient and effective systems. This has helped with the concept of brand equity, which is about the value of having a well known brand.
  • Allen Stephenson

    Stephenson founded Southern Tide one of the fastest growing clothing companies. It is ranked number 27 on Forbes most promising companies list. The companies annual revenue is 6.2 million dollars. The company was founded by Stephenson when he was just 23. It is focused on providing quality designer clothing.
