The first electric mower revolutionized the way we mow our lawn. It is far easier to mow a lawn using a motor powered mower than a "push" mower. This would save time and energy. -

Hamilton Beach patents the first single beater electric Mixer. This is a huge time saver in the kitchen. -
First Scheduled Radio Program
The first scheduled radio program was a huge advancement in mass communication. Radio provided education, entertainment and family time. This aided in productivity in the home because people no longer had to travel to hear music, speeches, etc. -
Singer introduced the "Portable Electric"
A new motor powered sewing machine was created. This allowed for sewing with less energy. Singer also began offering classes to the public soon after this. -
Frigidaire Refrigerator
In 1923 Frigidaire introduced the first self-contained refrigeration unit. -
First Dishwasher resembling modern dishwashers created
William Livens created the first modern dishwasher. WIthout indoor plumbing in most homes, only very wealthy people owned a dishwasher. This creation would eventually save people time and allow for time to be allocated to other important tasks. -
First Television Drama Broadcast
The first television drama broadcast opened up a whole new area of information. Although the television was not yet in American homes, this was a huge jump in technology. Although sometimes helpful (news, education, etc.) I believe the television in later years decreased the overall productivity of the household in addition to decreasing family time. -
Credit Cards
Credit cards allowed consumers to buy now and pay later. It also offered "insurance" for the retailers because they no longer had to make sure a person paid their tab. The card companies took care of business. Consumers could also buy withouth carrying a lot of cash. -
Singer introduces New Machine
Singer introduces a sewing machine with the zig zag stitch option. New sewing stitches allows for greater use of the machine and greatly reduces the amount of items needing to be hand sewn. -
First rear Facing Car Seat
Briton Jean Ames designed the first rear facing car seat. This is huge because children's bones and joints aren't fully formed and sitting rear facing can drastically lesson their chances of dying or serious injury in an automobile crash. -
Microwave
Introduction of domestic microwave ovens. This in addition to tv dinners and television made life a home easer in terms of kitchen prep, meal planning and cooking the meal. Families began to talk less and watch more. -

While this a not typically thought of as a "technology" in current days, a lot goes into the manufacturing and use of a seat belt. It's important people know how to use it correctly and that it doesn't break. This technology saves lives. -

Bill Gates and Paul Allen form a partnership called Microsoft. "a computer on every desktop and in every home" Gates and Allen started the foundation for what we know of today in terms of computers. This is a huge advanement for typing as well as home and work productivity. -

The walkman was created by Phillips. -

The first laptop is invented. This made school and home work inregards to tehnology a lot easier No more carrying around a typewriter. -

Motorola produced the first Cell Phone. Primary use was for business. -

DNA Fingerprinting was created. This led to more criminals being caught as well as provided a way for future technologies (signing into places with your finger, etc). -
Garmin GPS
The Garmin GPS changed how people traveled. It was more reliable and widely used than previous GPS models and allowed for travelers to leave their maps behind. -
First Ipod released
The first ipod changed how we listen to music. With more storage than a traditional Mp3 player, the ipod allowed for greater quantaties of easily transportable audio files. -

It was no longer necessary to visit the arcade to play video games. This decreased the amount of face to face time in families as well as face to face time for gamers. -

Facebook went live - revolutionized the world of social networking. -
Data Card/portable internet
The portable Vodafone data card is released. This allows people to take the internet with them. -

The Wii provided physical movement to video gaming. This allowed for children and adults alike to incorporate more family time and phsical activity to gaming. -
Kindle
Amazon released the Kindle, changing how students and rereational readers enjoy literature. No more lugging heavy books around. -
Iphone
The first Iphone is released allowing people the use their phones for much more than talking and texting. -

3D television began. This has not been a huge sucess in terms of American households but has taken hold in terms of entertainment in the Cinema.
