  • First Labor Strike

    1619 The first labor strike on American soil was organized and staged by Polish workers and artisans in Jamestown. The workers were unhappy with there quality of life.
  • Strikers proscution

    1677 First recorded prosecution against strikers in New York City. This was the first time legal action took place against people on strike.
  • Knights of labor stage strikes

    1885 Successful strike by Knights of Labor. they were successful in the Southwest and the Missouri Pacific; the Missouri, Kansas and Texas; and the Wabash.
  • Strikers killed

    1914 Ludlow Massacre of 13 women and children and seven men in Colorado coal miners’ strike. These innocent peoplewere killed due to the miners going on strike.
  • strike against General Motors in Flint, Michigan

    Auto Workers win sit-down strike against General Motors in Flint, Michigan. This was the first time workers had won a strike against a big car manufacture.
  • Largest strike

    Largest strike wave in U.S. history happened in 1946 due to wide spread dissatisfaction among workers. Good comunication among unions also made this strike possible.
