This was the first time gifted learners were acknowledged and progress started to be made. I think this event needed to be included because it really got the ball rolling of the future of gifted education. -

This showed me that it took over a century from when the first gifted policies were created to actually start trying to make advancements nationwide. Even though we still had a long way to go, these gifted classes and curriculums were expanding across America.

This was an important event to me because not only was this up to the states' discretion, but the Federal Government was trying to motivate each state to have some sort of gifted program. This was the federal government recognizing the importance of gifted education and was a tool to motivate progress that needed to be made. -
I thought this was such an important event in history because this is starting to get teachers prepared in gifted content before they even enter the classroom. Instead of teachers feeling like they need to invest their own money and after school time into gifted trainings, they could learn more about it while getting their degrees. This could get more teachers educated than ever before. I also loved that they started training already certified teachers to expand the education even more. -
I really wanted to remember the Javits Act because the purpose of this Act was to fund gifted education in low income communities. It was studied and proven that gifted learners from poverty did not learn as much as gifted learners in higher income areas because the programs were not as well funded or as effective. With the Javits Act, low income schools had specific monies allocated for the purpose of funding and educating teachers in a gifted education program. -
This was an important event to me because it truly showed me how long it took for every state and for the federal government to have mandates in place for gifted education. From the beginning of the creation laws to almost 200 years later we finally have all 50 states having official policies for gifted education. -
This timeline showed me that the biggest gifted education pushes were from 1970's - 1990's, but where is the big education push of the 2000's? In 2021, I feel we are still around the same place we were in the 1980's. There has not even any major event that I read about of impact or of importance for gifted education. Changes still need to be made to help our gifted learners and our teachers that work with gifted learners.
