Start of the Vietnam war

The war was between the U.S. and South Vietnam aganist North Vietnam. The U.S. did not want Vietnam to fall to communism. The U.S. believed if Vietnam fell to communsim, it would cause a Domino effect.

Hippies

Hippies started to really appear after the draft to vietnam. Hippies were aganist the Vietnam war. Hippies led Anti-War protests and marches.

There were many protests against the war. One of the protests was at the Washington Memorial. Thousands of hippies participated in these protests/marches.

Nixon ran against JFK in 1961. JFK belonged to the democratic party and Nixon belonged to the Republican party. JFK was victorious.

The 35th president of the United States. JFK became president in 1961. JFK was married to Jacqueline Kennedy.

Vietnamese were skilled soliders, but had little fire power. They used a tactic called guerilla warfare. The vietmanese wouldn't fight U.S. soldiers becuase of the lack of fire power.

Moon Landing

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin was the first man to walk on the moon. The moon landing is also called Apollo II. This was broadcast in television.

End of the vietnam War

The war ended and LBJ pulled out the U.S. soldiers. Thre was no terriotory gain. Communism contiued to control North Vietnam.
