    -The earliest known drawings date back to 30,000 - 10,000 BCE
    -Drawings were found in the caves walls of Altamira, Spain, and Lasaux, France.
  • Ancient Eygypt

    -Early egyptians decorated walls and tombs using hieroglyphics and religious dieties
    -Early 3,000 B.C
    -Egyptian drawings use a flat, linear style
  • Ancient Greece

    -Vases and pottery were drawn or painted on by ancient greeks to show their devotion to drawing
  • Middle ages

    -400-1400 CE
    -Drawings were used to produce religious messages and stories from the bible
    -People would draw or paint on wood
  • Renaissance

    -Drawing became recognized as a respectable art form because of the use of paper
    -Art students were trained in painting, sculpture, or architecture.
    -New methods of drawing incumded using softer materials, such as chalk and charcoal.
  • 1800's & 1900's

    -The use of pencils started
    -Movements of impressionism, cubism, and fauvism began in the 19th century -Artists had access to sketchbooks
