    in Australia, 1954, a woman named Ruby Hutchison was elected into the Western Australian Legislative Council. She one of the first consumer rights activists in Australia, founded the Australian Consumers' Association, and started with a magazine about consumer rights called the CHOICE magazine in 1960. Today on the the eve of every World Consumer Rights Day someone commemorates her with the Ruby Hutchison Memorial Lecture.

    In 1962 John. F. Kennedy made a speech pushing for The Consumer Bill of Rights which had four rights, being: the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose, and the right to be heard. This was the first main push for consumer rights. Later in 1985 the United Nations added four more rights: the right to satisfaction of basic needs, the right to redress, the right to consumer education, and the right to a healthy environment..
