Copernicus was a Polish astronomer, known for his heliocentric theory. Copernicus successfully argued that the Earth rotates on its axis and revolves around the Sun, along with every other planet, instead of Earth being the centre. His work challenged and contrasted the works of Aristotle and Ptolemy on the geocentric theory. He used his knowledge of mathematics and astronomy from astronomers like Aristarcus to prove his well-renowned theory.
