-Slaves could not make any kind of contract, not even marriage.
-Slaves were not allowed to have weapons.
-It was illegal for slaves to know how to read or write and it was illegal to give them a book.
-Any slave caught stealing could be whipped. -
3/5 Compromise
States that slaves counted as 3/5 of a person and this stopped arguments between the North and South -
Missouri Compromise
Missouri was a slave state and Maine was a non-slave state and they decided to outlaw slavery above the 36 30` katitude line. -
Compromise of 1850
benefitted both North and South by having no slaves restrictions in the South and admitting Californina a free state. It also prohibited slave trade in washington. -
Fugitive Slave Act
-required citizens to help with the recovery of fugitive slaves
-denied fugitives rigths to jury trial
