  • Head start funding

    Head Start is the national commitment to give every vulnerable child an opportunity to succeed.
  • NAEYC Established

    National Academy of Early Childhood Programs is established by NAEYC for voluntary accreditation of center based programs.
  • Even Start Established

    The U.S. Department of Education establishes Even Start, a parent education/literacy program.
  • Child Care and Development Grant

    The Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), also called the Child Care and Development Fund, is the primary source of United States federal funding for child care subsidies for low-income working families and funds to improve child care quality.
  • Stand for Children

    The Stand for Children Campaign begins, initated by the Children's Defense Fund.
  • No Child left behing Act

    No Child Left Behind requires all public schools receiving federal funding to administer a statewide standardized test annually to all students. Schools that receive Title I funding through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 must make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in test scores (e.g. each year, fifth graders must do better on standardized tests than the previous year's fifth graders).
