Historical Timeline

  • Compulsory Education

    Compulsory Education
Compulsory education was first passed in Massachusetts in 1852 and last passed in Mississippi in 1918. This act made it so that children had to attend some type of schooling. This process started and basically was a structure to today's laws about attending school. It made my top five because it set a standard for children to attend school. Also, it made it so children had somewhat of an education for going into the life after school.
  • National School Lunch Act

    National School Lunch Act
The National School Lunch Act was created by Richard B. Russel. This act made school lunches available and affordable for everyone in school. This Act also made farming surplus soar. This is very important in education because every needs food to be at their fullest attention, when you are hungry, you do not focus and do not think clearly. Also, this act made school lunches available for everybody that needed help with costs. This changed educational lunches for ever so it made my top five.
  • National Defense Education Act of 1958

National Defense Education Act of 1958
This act was passed in 1958 and gave funding to schools to improve on science and technology to keep up with the Soviet Union. It also encouraged post education once a student was done with high school. This act also made it possible to meet the demands posted by the national security. This act made my top five because it was a turning point in our country's view on how important certain subjects were in the classroom.
  • Title IV of Education Amendment

    Title IV of Education Amendment
Title IV was an act that made college available for students after high school through federal grants and student loans. With very low interest rates it made college possible for the lower income people. This act made education enrollment increase because people could finally afford to go to college. This made my top five because it made college affordable, and in today's society you need a college education to be able to have a good paying job.
  • Lau vs. Nichols

    Lau vs. Nichols
Lau vs. Nichols had the supreme court pass a law saying that it is unconstitutional for state officials to make a school prayer and tell students they had to say it in public schools. There are many different cultures and races in public schools, so if a kid doesn't have the same religious beliefs as the school does, it makes them a minority in the school.
