  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) vs. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

PARC and parents of children with intellectual disabilities were did not agree that the schools denied education to children with these disabilities. The schools believed these children had too much difficulty integrating into public school setting. The ruling was that the schools had to provide free education to all children, regardless of their disability. Also the education had to match that which was given to other students. This provides a fair education for all children.
  • Mills vs. Board of Education of the District of Columbia

Children were denied education based off the school saying the children had behavioral issues. The school board also said they didn't have the financial means to provide education for these students. The parents wanted their children to be able to have en education like all the other children. The courts ruled that the school must provide these students with an education, even if they can't pay for it. This has made education accessible for all children despite their disabilities.
  • Board of Education vs. Rowley

The parents of a deaf girl wanted their daughter to have an interpreter in class. The parents felt the girl would be more successful if she had an interpreter. The school argued that the girl was learning and did not need an interpreter. The school did not want to fund having an interpreter in the class as an added expense. The courts ruled in favor of the school and said if the girl is advancing in school there was no need for further assistance.
