    On this day, a B-29 bomber dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" on the city called Hiroshima in Japan. As many as 70,000 people were killed instantly, then a powerful shockwave leveled nearly every structure in a mile radius. Three days later, the United States dropped another atomic bomb "Fat Man" on the city of Nagasaki. Another 35-40,000 people perished. On September 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered which ended World War 2.
