  • Massachusetts Act of 1642

    Legislative acts for MA Bay Colony, Required that parents and teachers/masters made sure their children knew the principles of religion and laws of the commonwealth, the most improtant thing is that this had nothing to do with real "school"
  • Massachusetts Act of 1647

    This required towns with a certain number of citizens to hire a schoolmaster to teach their children, it took to burden off of parents
  • Benjamin Franklin's Academy

    Benjamin Franklin's Academy
    Founded by Benjamin Franklin, he thought children needed affordable good education, so he founded this school
  • Horace Mann - Normal Schools

    Horace Mann - Normal Schools
    Horace Mann was a Whig politician. Normal schools attempted to provide a teacher with a space for learning using model classrooms. Normal schools encouraged students to look into teaching as a profession.

  • Freedmen's Bureau

    Also known as the Bureau of Refugees, Established to help former black slaves and poor whites in the South after the civil war
  • Carlisle Indian Industrial School

    Carlisle Indian Industrial School
    In Carlisle, Pennslvania, "The flagship Indian boarding school in the U.S. from 1879 through 1918." All of the property that was there is now apart of the U.S. Army War College. Its known as the Carlisle Barracks.

    Secondary and Elementary education act, helped fund and provide financial aid to schools with a majority of low income students, It helped make sure the students were meeting the academic standards.

    This was the first artificial earth satellite. It was launched by the Soviet Union and orbited for 3 weeks before it died.

    A program of the DHHS that helps provide early childhood education. It helps with nutrition, health, and parent involvement for low income families.

    American legislation that includes 4 pieces. It ensures students with disabilities get free public education that is taylored to their needs.
  • Goals 2000

    Goals 2000
    Signed to law by Bill Clinton. This ensures states and communities make sure that their students reach their fullest potential.
  • No Child Left Behind

    This started in 2001, It is the name of the most recent Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. This included Title 1 provisions for disadvantaged students.
  • Race to the Top

    U.S competitive grant of $4.35 billion dollars created to spur and reward innovation and reforms in K-2 local district education.
