Kennedy was a newcomer also very young and a catholic. His votes were 49.7% and Richard Nixon was 49.5%. After a careful review from the eletoral college, Kennedy took home the gold by 0.1%.

    In 1961, the soviets launched the first man in space. His name is Yuri Gagarin. He was only 27 years old. Yuri made his orbital flight in eighty nine minutes aboard the Vostock 1 spacecraft. Yuri was the first person to see that the earth was round. He also noted that most of earth is made up of water. After this historic event, he became a worldwide celebrity.

President Kennedy was riding in an open top convertible in a parade. As his vehicle passed the Depository Building, Lee Oswald fired three shots on to the president. President Kennedy died 30 minutes later. Many people believed that it was a conspiracy that killed the president.

President Kennedy wanted to end this. It was sent to the House on November 20, 1963, just two days before President Kennedy was assassinated. After a few days, President Johnson signed the bill into law.
