After a careful discussion over dinner, they came up with a solution. The solution was to start a credit card system. The first credit card was issued by Flatbush National Brand of Brooklyn, NY.

    In 1950, the first organ transplant took place. An organ transplant is when someone donates one of their organs to someone who needs it so that they can live longer. Ronald Herrick was the first person to donate his kidney to his twin Richard. The reason being that Richard had a very bad kidney disease. Even though Richard gave his twin brother a kidney, he was still able to live an eight extra years more. Donating one or more of your organs is so amazing, you are giving someone a chance to live

    In 1953, the DNA structure was discovered by James Watson and Frances Crick. They said that the structure was a triple helix. It was wrong. They remodeled it better to show more details. It was accepted. They won a Nobel prize. The DNA discovery was named "the most important biological work of the last 100 years".

    In 1953, Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal were the first to reach the top of Mt. Everest. It took them seven weeks and years of dreaming about it. Mt. Everest is the famous mountain that is along the border of Nepal and China. Although they climbed the highest, they had to turn back because of bad weather and other problems.

    In 1954, Segregation was made illegal in the United States. This was a big problem before the civil war. The blacks were treated very differently. For example, they were not allowed to go to school. They had to ride the bus in the back. They were sold and bought to work as slaves. In today's world, everything has changed,
