  • First Colony in The New World

    King James granted charter for colonies in America. He sent over English merchants and military men to settle in Chesapeake and some further north. The colonies survived but it was not an easy beginning.
  • 30 years War

    The 30 years war was a series of wars in central Europe. The wars included Sweden, France, Spain and Austria but most of the war was fought in Germany. The wars involved and reshaped a lot of political and religious views throughout Europe.
  • Great Plague of London

    Great Plague of London
    The bubonic plague hit London in 1665 and lasted a year. It killed an estimated 100,000 people, which is almost a quarter of London's population.

    The Seven Years’ War was from lasted 1756 to 1763. France and Virginia were constantly fighting over the Ohio River valley which led to war.
  • JQA Birth

    JQA Birth
    John Quincy Adams was born in Braintree, Massachusetts on July 11, 1767. He was born to John and Abigail Adams as their second child and first son.
  • Napoleon

    Napoleon
    Napoleon was a European leader that had much influence. He was the Emperor of the French and the King of Italy. He was known for his small stature but large impact and strong military power. HE died on May 5th 1821 at the age of 51.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Britain tried to trick the Colonies into taxation without representation by lowering prices of tea by allowing Indian tea to be shipped straight to the Americas. Sam Adams led a town meeting that ended in 8000 people rushing to the docks and 50 men dumped all the tea into the harbor. There were 340 chests which is 90,000 pounds and 9 thousand British currency of tea dumped that day.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Most of congress wanted independence or thought it unavoidable. Thomas Jefferson wrote the document with help of Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. It was signed on July fourth which is now known as Independence day.

    JQA- spends time in Europe

    John Quincy sailed to France with John Adams, his father who was the Diplomat at the time. He was 10 at the time they set sail. He ended up going to school in Europe and became fluent in 7 languages during his time there. "John Adams and his son John Quincy ignored the ominous warnings of a hysterical relative who shrieked of "threatening signs" in the sky and sea"
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    The Reign of terror was a series of violent outbreaks in France in 1793 that lasted a full year. The onset of the French Revolution brought major strain to the communities which led to major breakouts of violence throughout the communities. There were 16,594 official death sentences reported in France and over 2000 were in Paris alone.
  • JQA Becomes Diplomat

    JQA's first official endeavor in politics was when President George Washington appointed him to be Minister to Holland. Later being appointed Minister to Prussia in Germany by his father, John Adams, and to Russia by James Madison.
  • JQA Marries Louisa Johnson

    JQA Marries Louisa Johnson
    While in England JQA met and married Louisa and she remained the only foreign born First Lady, until 2017. They had 4 children together, 3 sons and a daughter, however only the youngest son, Charles Francis Adams, lived into adulthood. At the age of 77 she passed of a heart attack (May 15, 1852).
  • Act of Union

    The Act of Union joined the British and Irish parliaments. The land was to be called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. This lasted until 1921 when Ireland declared them-self a free state.
  • JQA Begins His Time in Congress

    In 1803 JQA is elected into US senate for one term. He was later elected into the House of Representatives 3 times after his presidency.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson was president and wanted access to the mouth of the Mississippi River. France owned all of the Louisiana territory, and ended up selling all 828,000 acres to the US for 15 million dollars. "... dinner the President hosted with his cabinet to celebrate the Louisiana Purchase."

    War of 1812

    America grew annoyed with Britains ongoing attacks on American trade, so James Madison requested that congress declare war. The American Navy was weak compared to British who continued to blockade their trade routes. A treaty was signed after Britain became tired of the war on December 24th, 1814.
  • JQA 1824 Elections

    JQA 1824 Elections
    JQA was running for president against 4 other candidates, 2 from which he was alongside in Monroe's cabinet. Andrew Jackson won the most popular and electoral votes however did not receive the majority electoral votes so the decision went to the House which decided on JQA thanks to Henry Clay.

    JQA Presidency

    JQA was the 6th President of the United States. He was not the popular vote of the people but instead appointed by the House of Representatives. His presidency was not his most influential time because his election was not by the people and "he was never able to set an independent agenda for his presidency" (Oakes 305).
  • 50th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence

    On the 50th Anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died within 5 hours of eachother. John Adams, unaware that Jefferson had died earlier that day, last words included 'Thomas Jefferson survives'.
  • Mexican American War

    America fought with mexico over the border during Polk's presidency. The senate approved the treaty on March 10th, 1848.
  • JQA Death

    JQA Death
    After suffering a stroke at 78, and again at 80 during a meeting of congress over the treaty of peace with mexico, he went into coma and died two days later with his wife and youngest son at his side. His last words being "this is the end of earth, but I am composed." "The nation mourned a it had not since the deaths of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin."
  • Dred Scott Decison

    Dred Scott Decison
    Dred Scott was a slave that sued his owners for the time he spent in free territory. It created an uproar of political confusion surrounding the laws of slavery. The case reached the supreme court and it was ruled that Dred Scott was property and therefore was not eligible to have a law suit.
