Its exact definition translates to "lightning war" and is based around a strategy of cutting off supplies and attacking the enemy's front line with overwhelming force, especially with air support. The idea behind Blitzkrieg is to strike hard and fast resulting in a quick victory as Germany was fighting wars on multiple fronts and couldn't afford resources to drag wars on for too long.
