    1929 Crash

    In September of 1929, the stock market was not doing too good, with some up and down movements. By October 24, the market hit the worst place it has ever been in. This resulted in suicides, concern about the reliability of banks, and trust issues amongst American's that put so much hope in stock. This was a problem for the economy of America, and by mid November, investors lost around 30 billion dollars (Lecture Notes From February 22, 2023).
  • Truman Doctrine Speech

    Truman Doctrine Speech

    The Truman Doctrine was a speech in an effort to put American policy out loud for the first time. Truman did not previously have experience regarding foreign policy. This doctrine made isolationists mad, seeing it as if Truman was going against the country. This doctrine supported capital nations, like Greece and Turkey, who were threatened by Communism. This eighteen minute speech left a big impact, and led to the Marshal Plan (Lecture notes from March 22, 2023).
  • Integration in Little Rock, Arkansas

    Integration in Little Rock, Arkansas

    The Little Rock Nine, including Melba Beals, made a huge impact on the fight for rights for African Americans and Integrations. Despite the hate and violence they received, Melba and nine other brave high school students integrated for the first time at Central High School, creating it into a success story. This is shown in Melba's book, "Warriors Don't Cry", showing the fight for what was right in Little Rock, Arkansas schooling ("Warriors Don't Cry", Melba Pattillo Beals).
  • The Start of the Berlin Wall

    The Start of the Berlin Wall

    The Cold War was taking place, and Truman and the democratic allies won the first battle. Stalin takes this to the next level, and decided to build a wall dividing East and West Berlin. They started this wall with barbed wire, stretching the length of thirty miles through Berlin. The Cold War goes on brutally, and this divide of Berlin was scary. Today, there are remains and reminders of this dividing wall, but it has been taken down for the most part (Lecture notes from March 22, 2023).

    First McDonalds Opens In Soviet Union

    When the first McDonalds opened in the Soviet Union it was a significant day. Fast food was being introduced, and there was a line of thousands waiting for the opening of this McDonalds. The amount of customers on the opening day broke records with this opening in the Moscow Pushkin Square (United States Census Bureau, Pop Culture:1990).
  • Fox News Debut

    Fox News Debut

    Before the 1996 Presidential Election, the news Channel Fox made its debut on the media. This was a dream that many conservatives were waiting for, to be represented as a voice on the news. Murdoch financed this news channel, while Roger Ailes dealt with everything else.   • 9/11

    9/11

    The terrorist attacks of 9/11 left many Americans with loss, fear, confusion, and sadness. Al-Queda, with leader Osama bin Laden attacked United States buildings as a suicide attempt, including the World Trait Center. The horrors of 9/11 still effect American families to this day, and it is something that will never be forgotten in American history.     Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast terribly, being a category-5 storm and devastating many. New Orleans was the hardest state hit by this storm, Protections failed, and most of the city was underwater. In American History, Katrina left the most damage and needed the most money in support to rebuild and improve after this storm.     Colbert Media Sensation

    The Bush administration was being questioned by a lot of citizens. In 2006, Colbert was assigned to be the media entertainer at for the White House Corespondents Dinner. This made a joke of, and mocked both the president and the press. This was a prime example that criticizing the president for public entertainment can be successful and make profit (Kevin Kruse and Julian Zelizer, Fault Lines: A History of the United StatesSince 1974, Page 284).

    Apple Comes Out With Ipad Tablet

    For the first time, Apple introduced their new ipad tablet computer. This was a big deal, as new electronics were being introduced. Electronics and the media played a big role in politics, news, media, and work. This was a popular item that many bought, and Apple products keep growing and are used in many businesses today for many different reasons.
