    Hillary Diane Rodham was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois. Hillary Rodham was the eldest daughter of Hugh Rodham, a prosperous fabric store owner, and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham.

She became active in the Civil Rights movement and left the Republican Party after attending the Republican National Convention in 1968. When she graduated, she was the first student in the college's history to deliver the commencement speech.

In recognition of her professional and personal accomplishments, she was named Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1984.
