  • Hawker Aircraft Limited Formed

    Sopwith test pilot Harry Hawker and three others, including Thomas Sopwith, bought the assets of Sopwith and formed H.G. Hawker Aircraft Engineering in 1920.

    It was the first aeroplane designed by Hawker Engineering Co but was only used as a prototupe and there was only 1 built. It was made out of wood and could fly 125 mph and had a service ceiling of 14,500 ft.

    The Hawker Fury was a biplane fighter aircraft that was the first in the RAF to exceed 200 mph reaching speeds of 234 mph. It had a service ceiling of 29,500 ft with 2 x 7.7 mm Vickers Mk IV machine guns with 600 rpg and 275 models were made.

    The Hawker Hurricane was the most well known Hawker Aircraft plane made. A total of about 3,500 were made but only a total of 1,715 Hurricanes flew with Fighter Command during the period of the Battle, far in excess of all other British fighters combined. It's top speed was 328 mph and had 8 .303 in Browning machine guns mounted in wings

    It was the first Hawker plane built in WW2 but only 4 were made but 3 of those were prototypes. It could fly at 400 mph with a service ceiling 35,000 ft. It was single seated and used by the British Airforce but after testing it the engine was unreliable so no more were made.

    The Hawker Hunter was the last non-prototype aircraft made by Hawker Aircraft Co. The single-seat Hunter entered service as a manoeuvrable fighter aircraft, and later operated in fighter-bomber and reconnaissance roles in many conflicts with a top speed of 1,150 km/h.
