The Olympic Games as we know it were quite different to the ones of the ancients. Some of the events included; a 200m foot race, called a Stade, a diaulos, a double Stade, and a Dolichos, those ranged from 7 and 24 Stades. There were many more events, one of the most grueling was called the Pankration, it was a primitive form of martial arts.

Democracy is when all citizens of the respective country come together and vote on who they want as their leader, it can take different forms, but in the end it is the idea of letting everyone have a say. Greek democracy was a "Direct Democracy", meaning everyone eligible would have a say in decisions. Australia is a "representative democracy", that means the citizens vote for someone to make the decisions on their behalf.

A lesser known invention, in the year 236BCE the Greek mathematician Archimedes invented a primitive elevator. It was moved by hoisting ropes around drums, and rotated by manpower applied to capstan. Interestingly enough, in ancient Rome, the elevator was utilized to transport gladiators and animals to the arena.

In 146BCE the thousand year long civilisation that was the Greek civilisation ended. There were many reasons that Greek civilisation ended, conflict and social unrest was created due to the large gap between the rich and poor, as well as certain parts of Greece creating their own governing system, for example Athenian Democracy. Rome was also becoming a strong governing body, and in 146CBE, Rome took over the Greek city states.
