Franklin D. Roosevelt
Roosevelt makes the "New Deal" speech in July, and then was later elected as the 32nd US President. -
Bank Holiday
Roosevelt calls for the "Bank Holiday" which closed all banks. -
First New Deal Begins
15 new laws are quickly set in order to fight the Great Depression, Roosevelt launches the New Deal with the Emergency Banking Act. -
Gold Reserve Act
This act prohibited private ownership of gold and doubled the value of it. This changed the previous gold history. -
Soil Conservation Act
The FDR passes the act to teach farmers more sustainable methods to conserve. -
Social Security Act
This act provided income to the elderly, blind, disabled, and children in low-income families. -
The Hottest Summer
12 states experienced temperatures nearing 110 degrees, including four states that broke 120 degrees. That heat killed about 5,000 people. -
FDR Second Term
